Branding for my own personal print shop.
-
In the first lockdown I began doing digital illustrations of Manchester from the photographs I was taking on my daily walks. As it was summer all the photos were of Manchester’s iconic streets, empty but with beautiful blue skies. This then prompted me to go back through other places like Greece and Italy that I had taken photos of to make into illustrated location prints.
I had designed so many I decided to launch a website and Etsy and begin selling the prints, which I still do today. The prints expanded into different genres but the core brand and message is all about summer and adding some warmth to your home, whether that be in a Manchester based summer print or reminder of your holiday to Barcelona and your favourite glass of wine.
With the brand in mind I came up with the name Hello August, as all the prints had one thing in common… summer and a strong Mediterranean influence.
An illustrated sun was my key branding moment, which lead me to play with type for the name. I went through a series of different rounds but couldn’t find a font I loved. So I decided to design my own font which I used for the final logo and on comms and other fun headlines and print.
As my creativity grew through Hello August I also branched out into jewellery and therefor the logo was able to move fluidly into a metallic form to represent this side of the business.
